Birthday Meatballs

This recipe has become a favorite at our house over the years—simple, hearty, and always well-received. The boys have asked for them on a few birthdays, and they’re just as fitting for holiday weekends or weeknight dinners.  Bonus - they mix up fast and cook quickly!

Originally baked, we’ve started making them on the smoker at 350°F for 25 minutes, and the flavor boost is worth it. Serve right from the pan or toss into a Crockpot to keep warm for gatherings.

Pairs perfectly with our farm-raised ground beef—clean, flavorful, and raised right here on our farm.  You can even use a mix of ground beef and pork.

Here's our KHM Kitchen Recipe -

     Meatballs -

  • 1/3 c oatmeal
  • 1/3 c milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 Tb onion flakes
  • 1 TB Coconut Aminos or Soy Sauce
  • 1 lb KHM Ground Beef or Pork

Add all your ingredients except for the meat to a bowl and stir to mix.  Add thawed ground beef (or pork) and mix by hand until everything is evenly blended.  Form 1 1/2" round meatballs and place in baking pan or grill same foil pan.

* TIP - I like to use a cookie scoop to quickly and easily make uniform meatballs

     Sauce -

  • 1/2 c brown sugar (opt. - swap out half with equal part honey)
  • 1/2 c ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worchestershire Sauce

Mix sauce together and drizzle over meatballs.  Bake in the oven at 350°F for 30 min.  You can also make these on a smoker at 350°F for 30 min. for added flavor!

They're ready to serve straight from the pan or can be made ahead and kept warm or reheated in a slow cooker.

Sometimes I'm even organized enough to double or triple the recipe and freeze them (cooked or raw) for a quick future meal. 😉
