Juicy Farmhouse Ham
Share
When it comes to holiday meals, ham is a classic for a reason—and when it's a Krogman Homegrown ham, you're already halfway to a showstopper. This recipe keeps things simple, but the flavor is anything but.
It starts with just a handful of pantry staples: brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and a little bit of love. I’ll be honest—I was skeptical about the vinegar the first time I made this. But it turns out, that little splash is the secret. It balances the sweetness of the brown sugar with just enough tang to make the glaze shine. The end result? A juicy, flavorful ham with a caramelized finish that’ll have everyone going back for seconds.
Even better—it’s easy. You can bake it low and slow in the oven or let it simmer away in the crock pot while you enjoy the day. Either way, the natural juices mingle with that sweet-and-tangy glaze to make an incredible base for gravy. Just ladle it over sliced ham, mashed potatoes, or even rolls for next-day sandwiches.
Here’s all you need:
-
1 smoked Krogman Homegrown ham (bone-in or boneless)
-
1/4 cup brown sugar for every 3lbs
-
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar for every 3lbs
To make it:
Preheat your oven to 325°F. Place the ham in a roasting pan, score the top with a few shallow cuts, and whisk together the brown sugar and vinegar. Pour the glaze over the ham and cover it with foil.
Bake for about 30 minutes per pound, basting every 30 minutes if you want. For the last 15-20 minutes, remove the foil to let the glaze thicken and caramelize just a bit. (If using a crock pot, cook on low for 5–6 hours, basting occasionally.) You want the interal temperature to reach 145°F.
Let it rest before slicing, and don’t forget to save those juices—they’re pure gold.
Busy Mom Tip: Make your ham a day or two ahead of time. Slice it up and tuck it in the fridge. When you're ready to serve, just reheat it in the slow-cooker or roaster with the juices—maybe add a splash of water if needed—and you're good to go. Because let’s be honest… the oven fills up fast, and you should get to actually enjoy the day too.
Whether you're setting the table for Easter Sunday or just want a comforting, no-fuss meal to share with family, this ham is the kind of dish that brings people together. It’s warm, flavorful, and filled with the kind of homemade goodness that just feels right.
